In this series, the last of the protest pictures, we have the redguard. An elite protesting force unparalleled in the metro area. They were trained minutes, sometimes hours in advance for the instense job of yelling into megaphones and making sure cars don’t hit us. But this thankless job is not without its benefits. They got to wear cool red armbands that were only slightly reminiscent of Nazi fashion.

We’re back in St. Paul, and we have a kitty! His name is Genencor. He is awesome.

These are some of the scenic sights passed by on the protest route, which was basically a circle. I actually have another picture of that same church, but from the other side when we came back around. It wasn’t as good.

Witness the varied faces of protestors. Fascinating, no? Yes. Quite.

Things are slightly hectic. Lots of things to do, yes yes. Mostly practicing for the show on Friday for which you should ALL be there AT 7:30 because that’s when the doors open and the show STARTS at 7:45 and I’m freakin FIRST. So. There.

Cassie & Michael

on the sidelines

After the protest Cassie accused Michael and I of being too cynical, making fun of the chants etc., thereby “raining on her parade", so to speak, and not allowing her to truly enjoy the protestin. Michael has no excuse, really. Just look at him in that last picture, all leanin against the wall. Cmon. How much more aloof can you get? As for me, I was taking pictures. I had to distance myself, see. Also Michael is a bad influence on me…and they were kind of stupid chants.

Signs of Protest

end the war on iraq

save the children stop war

why vegan?

pet a turkey

feed the children starve the war

Cassie and Michael and I went to a protest yesterday. I think it was to commemorate the second anniversary of the war, or something. As you can see from this post, well, I guess most people were concerned about starving babies and stuff. But really there was a lot of variety as far as signage is concerned. People just sort of took the protest as an opportunity to propogate their whole canon of views. Social security reform, UN stuff, bring the troops home, Bush sux, No Empire/Capitalism…don’t eat baby pigs, etc. Which is all fairly related, I guess.

In a matter of hours I’ll be going home for the week for some R&R and to practice furiously for a show I’m playing on Friday at Nexus. So, if you’re in the CR area then, do come by. It’ll be rad.

Te ga itai

minneap skyline at dusk

This is a picture of the Minneapolis skyline at dusk from in front of Michael’s building. It is the only picture that even resembles something internet-worthy that I could find. It is hard to keep up with this business, because I feel obligated to update at least every few days. I don’t want this thing to go idle for a whole week. Just gotta keep taking pictures. Of course, that will be hard to do now that I am handicapped. I am currently typing with one and a half hands, because a big ol splinter has become lodged under one or two layers of skin in between the two most peaceful fingers of my left hand. Tweezer attempts have been futile. Cassie suggests a knife. I suggest this is an awful idea. I guess we’ll see.

Founders Day

founders day

Michael and I were just talking about Obodrit, a supposed Lechitic language (like Polish) which Ethnologue says does not exist. Rather, there is no entry for it on Ethnologue. Wikipedia, however, says it exists and even has an entry for it. However, this entry just says “Blah blah blah people who lived in Poland, etc.” There is no mention of it actually being a LANGUAGE. So, as much as I enjoy Wikipedia, I must defer to Ethnologue here and say that Obodrit is not a language…but I wish it were, cause it sounds like it would be cool.

Also, last night was the Founders Day Gala and it was pretty fun, I guess. They had some snacks and eventually cake but they ran out of free booze, which was sad. Cassie dressed up as a Go-Go Amazon Girl. And by dressed up as, I mean she is one.

Now, this title is not to imply that Cassie is lazy, or sits on the couch watching TV all day. Quite the contrary, she’s usually the one doing her homework while I’m dinkin around on the computer. Though I suppose doing her homework involves sitting on a couch or something. Whatever.

Well, I’ve got some good news and some bad news…and they are both Civilization III. The same can be said about my haircut tomorrow. Let’s hope all goes well on the scholastic and follicular fronts. And again, for those of you just tuning in, The Futureheads were totally awesome live and The Shout Out Louds (from Sweden), making an appearance in the first picture, are pretty rad too.

Adventure to Cub Foods Finale

hey buddy, i'm tryin to drive here

Saw Constantine last night. You know, it was fine, I guess. I do not regret my six dollar student ticket purchase. This is the end of the Cub Foods Adventure Series, as I’m sure it will be known in the decades to come. Things to look forward to: Some blurry shots from the Futureheads show, and what I hope will be some good pictures of Cassie sitting on the couch.

I just got back from seeing The Futureheads. If you ever have the chance to see them live, I highly recommend it. Their album is good, but it’s just basically nothing compared to their live show. They’ve really got their shit together, plus they split up the audience and have them sing different parts…which is awesome. They are very charasmatic men. You will like them and sing when they tell you to. Yaaaay.

This Is All I Eat

Just a few moments ago, frustrated that I couldn’t get the streaming audio for 89.3 The Current to work, I realized I could just turn on the radio on top of the television, which is sitting right in front of me. Brilliant. But, it doesn’t work. Damn. It’s all fuzzy and getting confused with other stations. Suddenly, I had an idea. Tin foil! Knowing full well that this is only something that works in the movies and television shows, I nonetheless wrap some tin foil around the antenna. No effect. So I bend it and make it point into the ether towards the radio station (I hope). Nothing. So I just push the antenna down, about the give up, when suddenly it works! So, here I am, writing this post, and listening to Seu Jorge play Life on Mars from a radio with a short bit of tin foil pointing slightly to my left. Truly, radio is a mysterious and wonderful thing.
